We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welded gate brackets, hinge assemblies, and custom fabricated mounting plates across San Antonio, with most fabrication and install jobs running $220 to $580 depending on the part and how much cutting and fitting your gate needs. Most owners find us after a weld fails and the gate starts sagging, dragging, or binding against the post. It usually starts as a creak or a visible crack at the weld point, then gets worse fast.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
This work covers the DoorKing 6000, 6100, 6300, and 6500 series slide gate operators, plus swing gate setups running the 9000 series and the newer 9150 line. The biggest compatibility gotcha in San Antonio is the bracket style: DoorKing slide operators use a bolt-together chain idler bracket on the 6000 series, while the 6300 and 6500 series rely on a welded steel rack mount that gets custom-fit to the gate frame. If you have the round rail guide brackets, that’s a 6100. If you have the square tube idler assembly, you’re on a 6300 or newer.
For the model itself, check the metal plate on the operator housing. The first four digits tell you the series, and the letter suffix (like 6300-081) tells you the gate weight class. That weight class determines the bracket thickness we fabricate, so don’t guess it. On OEM versus aftermarket: DoorKing’s factory brackets are solid but generic, and they cost more than they should. For welded steel mounts and custom hinge plates, a quality aftermarket piece fabricated locally in San Antonio is usually thicker, fits your gate better, and costs 30 to 40 percent less. We build them in-house, not offshore.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Visible cracks at the weld joints on the operator mount plate. This is the most common failure we see, especially on swing gates in San Antonio’s freeze-thaw cycles. The metal expands and contracts, and eventually the weld gives at the thinnest point.
- Gate sagging or dragging on the ground on the latch side. The hinge weld is the load point. When that bracket starts to fatigue, the gate drops. You’ll see scrape marks on the concrete or hear grinding on the track.
- The operator mount is loose or rocking. Bolts backed out of a welded plate means the plate is flexing. Tightening the bolts helps for about a week, then it’s loose again because the plate itself is moving.
- Chain or belt keeps jumping off the idler sprocket. On DoorKing slide gates, a bent or cracked idler bracket puts the chain out of alignment, and the chain walks off the sprocket every few cycles. The bracket is the root cause, not the chain tension.
- Rust bleeding from the weld area after a rain. That orange drip line is a sign water is getting inside a cracked weld. It’s not just cosmetic. Once water sits in there, the crack spreads through the heat-affected zone and the part fails completely.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Antonio, fabricated hinge brackets and operator mount plates generally run $220 to $380 installed, and full custom fabrication jobs like replacement slide gate rack mounts run $380 to $580. The range depends on material thickness, how much cutting and welding is required, and whether we need to bring the gate back into alignment after the new part goes in.
Every price includes the part, labor, on-site fitting, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back at no charge. You get a written price before any work starts, and the number on that quote is the number you pay. No surprise line items. Nico Alvarez oversees every fabrication job that leaves our San Antonio shop, so a weld that’s out of square doesn’t leave the bench.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the bolts, look for visible cracks, and snap a photo to send us for a quick read on whether it’s urgent. You cannot safely reweld a gate bracket without a proper welder, proper prep, and experience with heat distortion on gate frames. A bad weld on a 400-pound sliding gate is dangerous to you and to anyone near the gate when it lets go.
Welding on a gate that’s under load or still mounted is how people get hurt. The frame shifts, the slag drops, or the part cools wrong and fails on the first cycle. If the weld is cracked or the gate is sagging, call us at (361) 314-4803. We’ll quote it in writing before anything gets cut.
FAQs
With proper prep and paint, a fabricated bracket in San Antonio lasts 10 to 15 years before the Texas sun and rain start working on the weld. Factory brackets on gates with high cycle counts often fail earlier, usually at the weld’s heat-affected zone, because the original weld was sized for a lighter gate than what the operator actually runs.
Sometimes, if the crack is small and the surrounding steel is still sound. But most San Antonio gates we see have brackets that are too far gone to re-weld in place. The heat from welding a cracked bracket usually warps it and makes the alignment worse. Replacement is the better fix for anything over a hairline crack. Call us and we’ll tell you straight which one you need.
Most DoorKing bracket replacements and welded mounts in San Antonio are done in half a day, including cutting out the old bracket, fabricating the new one, welding it in, and testing the gate under full load. We bring the welder to you, so there’s no dragging the gate to a shop.
We carry common slide gate rack mount plates and hinge bracket blanks on the truck, plus we cut and weld to fit on site. Custom or oddball sizes take a couple of days. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, so if your gate is a mix of brands we can usually sort it in the same visit.
