If your Ghost Controls gate opener has a cracked bracket, a sheared weld on the arm assembly, or a mounting plate that’s torn loose from the gate post, we stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welded components across San Antonio, and most replacements run $220 to $480 installed, including the fabrication work. We keep common Ghost Controls weld plates, gate brackets, and arm reinforcements on the truck, so figure on same-day turnaround for roughly 70 percent of the jobs we see. The way most owners find us: the gate starts slamming at the end of its travel, or the opener arm visibly sags, and what looked like an adjustment issue turns out to be metal fatigue at the weld point.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds swing gate openers under the AXS, AXP, and ABBT series, and the welded steel components are the gate brackets, the opener mounting plate, and the clevis pins that connect the arm to the gate. The brackets on the AXP (which is the heavier residential dual-swing line) use a taller mounting pattern than the AXS series, so a bracket from one will not line up cleanly on the other without re-drilling. Ghost Controls brackets are powder-coated mild steel, and that coating is exactly what fails first in San Antonio; once the coating cracks from gate torque or UV exposure, the underlying steel rusts from the inside out. For most residential systems in San Antonio, a quality aftermarket steel bracket with a zinc-rich primer and powder topcoat will outlast the factory unit, but on the AXP’s articulating arm assembly we typically recommend staying with OEM-spec geometry because the pivot angle matters. Calder Gate Repair San Antonio is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Ghost Controls.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Sagging opener arm. The clevis pin hole elongates over time and the arm drops a half inch or more below level. That slop puts a bending load on the bracket weld itself, which is what eventually cracks it.
- Gate slams at open or close limit. The bracket flexes under load and the opener’s travel limits no longer match the physical gate position, so the arm overdrives the gate into the post.
- Rust streaks from a bracket or weld point. Once the powder coat cracks, water gets in and rust bleeds out. On San Antonio’s east side near Salado Creek, where irrigation overspray hits the gates nightly, we see this on systems only 3 or 4 years old.
- Grinding or popping sound mid-travel. The bracket shifts in its mounting holes as the gate moves, and the popping is the bracket slamming against the bolt shanks. The more it moves, the more it ovalizes the holes.
- Gate drifts open or closed on its own. A weakened bracket changes the geometry enough that the opener’s internal brake can’t hold the gate at rest, especially on sloped driveways like you find in Alamo Heights.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Antonio, expect to pay $220 to $480 installed for Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work. A straight bracket replacement with a new off-the-shelf steel bracket runs on the low end; a custom-fabricated mounting plate or a re-welded gate post anchor, where we’re cutting and welding on site, lands at $380 to $480. The range depends on how much fabrication is actually required, which we confirm before we quote. Every price we give you is in writing before we start; the invoice matches the number we agreed to at the door. We don’t surprise people. Labor and parts are listed separately on the quote, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for, and the welding work itself is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check for visible rust, cracked powder coat, and side-to-side play by grabbing the opener arm and shaking it with the gate in manual mode. Do not attempt to re-weld a Ghost Controls bracket or gate anchor yourself unless you are a certified welder; the bracket carries the full weight of a moving gate, and a cold or undercut weld on a 400-pound iron gate can fail without warning and turn the gate into a pendulum. The same goes for working on an opener under tension: pull the release mechanism first and verify the gate swings freely before you inspect anything. If the bracket is cracked through, call us at (361) 314-4803 and we’ll bring the welder, the steel, and the replacement bracket to your house. We’ll also text you the price before a single bolt comes off.
FAQs
On a properly installed system, the welded bracket itself usually lasts 5 to 8 years in San Antonio before rust or metal fatigue becomes a problem. The bigger variable is the powder coat, which often cracks within 2 to 4 years on gates that get direct afternoon sun or sprinkler overspray. The weld is what fails last; the coating is what fails first, and once it’s gone the clock starts on the steel under it.
We can re-weld a cracked bracket if the crack is small and the surrounding steel still has thickness to it, and that repair typically costs $150 to $220. If the bracket is rusted thin or the mounting holes are ovalized, re-welding just moves the failure point down the line, so we replace the bracket and weld in a fresh anchor. Call (361) 314-4803 and we’ll tell you which one you need.
Most Ghost Controls welding and bracket jobs take 60 to 90 minutes on site from arrival to finished weld. If we’re fabricating a custom anchor plate or repairing a torn gate post in addition to the bracket, plan on up to 2 hours. We’ll text you a live arrival time, and we show up when we say we will.
We stock the most common Ghost Controls swing gate brackets, clevis pins, and mounting hardware on our service trucks, plus the steel stock and welding gear to fabricate what we don’t carry. If your job needs a part we don’t have, most of it is available same-day from our suppliers in San Antonio, so you aren’t waiting on a backorder like you would be with a mail order part.
